Emma started singing to Lauren almost from the start.  On the eighth day, we caught it on video.  Have you ever seen something so adorable?

Today was a special day!  We welcomed our second daughter, Lauren Rose, into our family.  She celebrates her birthday with her Papa Mike who was also born on April 20!  Big sister, Emma, is over the moon to meet her little "sugar baby" who she called Rosie even before we knew we were having a girl.

Out For A Walk

Emma, Mommy, and Daddy took their first walk around the neighborhood this week. Luckily we had a beautiful evening with cooler temperatures and a very light breeze. We think Emma enjoyed her outdoor adventure – she slept the entire time.

Sleeping Beauty

Newborns sleep for approximately 16 hours a day, usually in 2-3 hour increments. Here are some great poses of our sleeping beauty. While most babies like to be swaddled, she prefers to stretch out. What a funny girl!

Beardstown Bond

Scott and his best bud, Drew, have known each other since the age of three. They grew up together in Beardstown and were roommates while attending ISU. Even though Drew and his family live out of state, these boys still maintain a great friendship. Now that they are both daddies, they have a lot more in common. Here is a recent photo of us with Drew, Heather, and three-month-old Jack. Olivia, who just turned two, was back home during this trip with her grandparents.

Hand Crafted With Love

Emma has been fortunate enough to receive several beautiful gifts including blankets, clothing, and décor for the nursery from her talented friends and family. Thanks to Grandma Connie, Great-Aunt Barb, Great-Aunt Dixie, Janenne, Leslie, Nadine, Judy, Linda, Karen, and Gina for putting so much time and energy into such special gifts. Quilted, crocheted, stitched, or painted, they will be well used and loved.

Dare to Compare

People are often interested in comparing newborn photos of the parents to a new baby. Who does the baby look more like? Does she have mom's nose and ears? Does she have dad's coloring? Well, you decide.

Calling In Reinforcements

As I was down for the count from lack of sleep with a severe headache, dizziness, and nausea from pain medication, Scott and I knew it was time to call in reinforcements. Grandma Jill and Grandpa Mike saved the WEEK by staying with us and tending to our every need. Emma had a wonderful time visiting with her grandparents, and we learned a lot about taking care of a newborn and ourselves.

Grandma Connie and Grandpa Ross stayed at our place while we were in the hospital and looked after things for us. Our parents have run errands for us, tended to the yard and household chores, and made many fabulous meals for us. What would we do without such a wonderful support system? We can’t say thank you enough!

The Big Event

Are you interested in an overview of the big event? Well, with our little angel a week overdue, no signs of labor on the horizon, and a 90 degree fractured tailbone from a fall 4 years ago, Scott and I opted for a C-section. All in all, it was the best decision for us. I think that if we would have waited, I would have eventually been induced, labored, and then had a C-section because of her size and my tailbone obstructing her path. The doctor said that she would simply break it as she passed through, but my motherly instincts told me she would break it and get stuck. Anyway, who wants a re-broken tailbone, episiotomy, and all of the other fun stuff of a regular delivery when you can have major surgery, right?

Although I have battled with reactions to pain medication and some discomfort, the joy that our daughter brings masks the ailments. She has so many funny faces and makes a ton of interesting sounds. What a precious gift! We have taken numerous pictures of Emma and her new family. Enjoy the slideshow of her first week.
