The Name Game

Though many of you are curious, we haven’t decided on a name for baby girl Foley. There are a few we are seriously considering—Fifi, Kal-ella, Aphrodite, and Diva are still in the running. Your suggestions are welcome.

She Moves!

Kristen felt the baby move! She had been wondering if what she felt since Valentine’s Day was the baby or just her intestines working or stretching ligaments and muscles. There really is something in there! It’s our little girl! Supergirl has been moving a lot, and it feels more and more like the “bubbles” or “flutters” the books foreshadowed. What a sweet Valentine’s gift from our little babe!

Baby Fact #3 and Update

Did you know? Baby books and websites like to compare the growth of a baby with food items. Here are the comparative sizes from Week 4 to Week 40! Yum!

Poppy seed, sesame seed, lentil, blueberry, kidney bean, grape, kumquat, fig, lime, medium shrimp, lemon, apple, avocado, turnip, bell pepper, tomato, banana, carrot, spaghetti squash, mango, ear of corn, rutabaga, cucumber, cauliflower, Chinese cabbage, butternut squash, cabbage, 4 large oranges, jicama, pineapple, cantaloupe, honeydew melon, crenshaw melon, Swish chard, leek, mini-watermelon, and finally a small pumpkin.

It’s week 21! Our little girl is now 10 ½ inches from head to heel—about the length of a carrot. Wow, that’s long! Her skin is changing from translucent to opaque, and she is swallowing now. The immune system is weaker during pregnancy, and, as a result, Kristen has been battling an upper respiratory infection. Other than a lingering cough, all is well with the pregnancy!

Baby Gear

We visited Babies ‘R’ Us over the weekend and are completely overwhelmed by all of the “things” out there for babies. How did our parents keep us alive without wet wipe warmers, Pull-Ups, Diaper Genies, ear thermometers, shopping cart seat covers, video monitors, and Baby Einstein?

What would you say are items you couldn’t live without? What would you suggest we skip with the registry scanner? Any advice would be appreciated!

Happy Valentine's Day!

It’s so cute how unborn children give and receive cards on holidays, isn’t it? Scott is such a wonderful husband; he not only had a card for me on Valentine’s Day, but he also had one for Mommy from our little Supergirl.

Boy or Girl?

What do you think? Is it a boy or a girl? Well, we had our 20-week ultrasound on Lincoln’s birthday and discovered that it’s a . . . girl! The doctor is 98% sure of his prediction. We are a bit in shock, because we had guessed it was a boy based on what others had told us about pregnancy with boys vs. girls. Nonetheless, we are tickled pink over the news! It's a girl!

The Halfway Mark

We have reached week 20—the halfway mark! It’s crazy to think that 140 days and 90+ degrees from now we will be welcoming our new baby! Let the planning begin!

Baby Fact #2 and Update

Did you know? Sleeping on your back during the second and third trimester can decrease blood flow through the lower half of the body and back to the heart? With the increase weight of pregnancy and the baby, doctors recommend sleeping on the left side to prevent compression of the vena cava.

Week 18 is upon us, and the Foleys are enjoying a snow day on this Friday! We have about 9 inches on the ground, so we'll be bundled up in the house today.

Exciting news may be just around the corner. We are scheduled for an ultrasound on Lincoln’s birthday. If Baby Foley cooperates, we’ll learn if it’s a boy or girl. And Kristen’s mom-to-be books and websites tell us that she may begin to feel little flutters in the next few weeks. Boy, (or girl), this is fun stuff!
