A Party Fit for an Ice Princess

Emma wanted a Frozen themed party for her 6th birthday.  Lauren was happy to play the role of little sister, Anna.

Emma looked lovely in her Elsa gown and tiara.  She helped me create the snowflake decorations in the weeks prior to the party.

The girls played "Anna's Snowball Toss" in their finest dresses.  Thanks to The Dollar Tree, I was able to make this game for $11.00!

Next, the princesses made Arendelle ice bracelets.

"Elsa's Race to North Mountain" was a fun game!  The girls balanced an ice cube on a carrot stick as they followed the trail around the house.  (The party was intended to be outdoors, but the rain kept us inside.)

These Olafs are adorable!

There were snacks galore to fit the Frozen theme:  Hershey Kisses (to melt a frozen heart), Snowballs (marshmallows), Olaf Arms (pretzels sticks), Sven's Antlers (pretzel twists), Olaf Noses (petite carrots), Troll Trail Mix, Anna's Punch, Elsa's Apple Juice, and Melted Snow.

"Pin the Nose on Olaf" was a highlight.  I had enough carrot pieces for each girl to go twice.

The activities continued with "Sven's Snowflakes" and  "Kristoff's Ice Tower."  Stacking the cubes was cold and slippery!

A large and small scoop of vanilla ice cream was the canvas for food art!  The girls added chocolate chips, pretzels, marshmallows, and a petite carrot to make their edible Olafs.

Lauren enjoyed all of the fun, too!

For a parting gift, the princesses each picked a Frozen book.  They carried all of their goodies home in an Olaf bag.  I loved searching Pinterest for all of these awesome ideas!

Lovin' the Library

We love spending time at our local library.  They offer a lot of weekend and summer activities.  Emma took part in a Martha Speaks book club for several weeks this summer.  Each week they read stories, played games, and made projects to go with the theme of the chosen Martha Speaks book.  Emma brought a friend, and the girls had a great time.  Scott played with Lauren up in the Children's Department while I enjoyed time with the older girls in the Community Room.

Spash!

After Emma's morning swimming lesson, we would occasionally stick around and spend some time splashing in the wadding pool.  Anderson Pool has great water features for little ones.

Sprinkler Sisters

Aren't they both little divas posing in the sprinkler for the camera!  Lauren loves to copy what Emma does and says.  Emma eats it up . . . for the most part!

A Hunting They Will Go!

What a beautiful morning for an Easter egg hunt in our yard--green grass, warm sun, a light breeze!  The girls did a great job of sharing.

Lauren Turns Two

Elmo, Abby, and the Sesame Street gang helped us celebrate Lauren's second birthday.  We played pin the nose on Elmo, but Lauren was so quick, I couldn't get a picture in time!

Dad's Day Art

Emma made a few art projects for Father's Day with her babysitter, but I forgot to get a picture of them until now. Scott displayed them in his office right away. He is so proud of his generous little artist.

Science Experiment 4

You'll only need a balloon and a carbonated beverage in a bottle for this experiment. Place the balloon over the neck of the bottle. Gently shake it. Watch the carbonation fizz and create air that fills the balloon.

Baker Girl

Emma really wanted to make sugar cookies one day. So her sweet Daddy picked up some ingredients at the store during his grocery trip. She happily put on her baker's jacket and hat and tested out her play utensils. No, we did not use the toy blender. But she did use her rolling pin and cookie cutters. Playing with the flour and adding the sprinkles were her highlights. And she did actually like her creations this time! (That's because there wasn't any chocolate!)

Science Experiment 3

For this experiment, we used a raw potato and drinking straws. First, the neighborhood kids each tried to jam a straw into the potato and discovered that the straw bent. Then Scott told them to hold their thumbs over the top of a new straw and try it again. This time the straw easily penetrated the potato. Why? When the thumb covered the end of the straw, it trapped in air, which made the straw a stronger structure. The trapped air prevented the straw from bending. Cool science!
